ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her along with her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was multisport in her youth, but she was only introduced to soccer at 14. Morgan was a member of the Cypress Elite club team and won the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. Morgan also finished third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to train at Diamond Bar High School, where she developed her soccer abilities. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan as an All-American Athlete. Additionally, she played for both state and regional divisions in the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan completed her soccer journey at UC Berkeley, where she played a key role in leading the California Golden Bears team in scoring from the very beginning of the season. Morgan was instrumental in getting the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice making it to the second round. Morgan was among four finalist candidates for the Honda Sports Award and the first from her school to make the list of Hermann Trophy finalists. Morgan completed her studies at Berkeley in the first semester of 2010, and was ranked third in the top scorers of all time in goals, points and assists. Morgan had a variety of soccer careers at both the collegiate as well as national levels throughout her time at school. Morgan suffered an ACL injury in her very first year as an Berkeley player. Morgan was unable to participate in training with the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April of 2008. She scored her first international goal in Mexico during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals and earned her team a gold-medal. One of these goals was a win over Italy that gave the U.S. team the final place at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead the team to victory over France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score either a goal or assist.
